Consignment drop off on Friday, October 7th from 4pm - 7pm.

18th Annual Blast From the Past at Smuggs!

This season we will be hosting our 18^th Annual Blast From the Past here at Smuggs on Saturday, March 26^th, 2011.

This is a Pro Format Race for all you coaches, athletes, and anyone over 21 who would like to compete. There will be a two run GS qualifier with a Dual Panel SL eliminations round with a pro jump.

$35 entry fee includes the GS qualifier and possible eliminations round, BBQ, beverage, and chance at some great swag from the Bib Draw.

For you non racers $20 gets you BBQ, beverage, and a great place to cheer on your friends, coaches, and family.

Bring yourself or form a team and come for some oldschool fun and entertainment to celebrate the spring and benefit the Smugglers Notch Ski and Snowboard Club.

Mark your calendars!

The annual Smugglers' Notch Ski & Snowboard Club ski, board and winter gear sale will be held Columbus Day Weekend (Oct. 9-10, 2010) at the Champlain Valley Expo Fairgrounds in Essex Junction.

Vendors from around the region will be on hand selling both used and brand new alpine and Nordic skis, snowboards, bindings, boots, poles, soft goods, skates, helmets and other types of equipment. There will be great bargains to be had.

You'll also be able to purchase your season's pass to Smugglers' Notch.

Hours
Saturday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Sunday: 10 a.m.-2 p.m

Items to be sold on consignment can be dropped off Friday 4-8 p.m. Consignment equipment must be in good shape, and no straight skis will be allowed.

New program for 2010-11

As you make plans to head up to the SNSC Club house on Sunday, Sept. 19 for the 2010-11 season, we wanted you to know of a NEW program offering this year.

In addition to our popular FreeStyle Ski Team, we're also offering a Competitive Freestyle Weekend (PLUS) program. This is designed for the skier who wants to compete in big air, parks, pipes and SkierX competitions.

Getting this program (train on Saturdays and Sundays, plus Fridays that you can) up and running will depend on the interests of the athletes. But it's high time SNSC entered the park, pipe and big air realm at a competitive level.

2010-11 Sign-up day: Sept. 19

Hey skiers and riders!

The annual sign-up day will be held SUNDAY SEPT. 19 at the Smugglers' Notch Ski & Snowboard Club at the base of the Sterling Mountain T-Bar.

We'll be there from 11 a.m. through 3 p.m. and we'll plan to throw a few hot dogs and burgers on the grill about 12:30. C'mon up, get your paperwork rolling, make a deposit and see old friends.

Oh, and bring some racing gear if you want to try to sell it. We'll give members the four hours we're there the opportunity to swap/sell/trade racing gear in good shape (just don't plan on leaving equipment at the clubhouse).

Also, we're trying to finalize ways to find some incentives for current SNSC members who bring new members into the club. Check back on this blog to find details of the incentive program we're introducing.

But in the meantime, plan on coming up to the mountain on Sept. 19, bring a friend, bring some gear and see your winter friends once again!

Ski & Ride Meister Programs - Getting started in SNSC

The Smugglers' Notch Ski & Snowboard Club offers entry level programs for skiers and riders ages 5-10. These programs emphasis the fun of snowsports, but also begin to build a base for young athletes who may soon consider moving their skills into a more competitive environment.

These programs (details below) begin immediately after Christmas. Sign-up will be held in Sept. 19 and again at our Ski & Snowboard Sale held Oct. 8-10 at the Champlain Valley Expo.

Prices range from $230-$300 (passes not included).

Some details:

Development ski team (ages 7-10)
This program aims to improve each child's free-skiing technique and develop the necessary skills to move into the J4, J5 and J6 racing programs or our alpine freestyle team. Skiing abilities improve rapidly through exposure to all-mountain free-skiing, terrain courses, GS and slalom drill courses. Children should be able to ride the Sterling lift, ski the upper mountain and be able to stop and turn. This program meets on Saturdays. Coaches for 2010 were Mike Loucy, Brian Picotte and Mark Bergin.

Ski Meister team (ages 5-7)
The next step up from the resort's award-winning Mighty Mite program, this weekend program is designed for children with some alpine experience, can stop, turn and ski intermediate trails. Children need current equipment and will have the option of competing in 2-4 events at the club. Coaches for 2010 were John Casavant and Pierre Heroux.

Ride Meister team (ages 6-10)
Much like the Ski Meister program, only for snowboarders, this is offer junior riders and fun and educational snowboarding experience. The main goal of this program is develop riders comfortable taking an intermediate trail from top to bottom. They'll begin exploring tree rides, mid-size jumps and entry level features. This program is coached by Emmet Manning.
